This is when the freak in me comes out. I feel like Mortal Kombat was my childhood equivalency of bedtime stories. A fatality was undoubtedly my happily ever after. Who wouldn’t want that?

Anyway, this is a demo reel for a possible Mortal Kombat movie reboot. Apparently, it’s just a short film that was pitched to Warner Brothers to try to sell the director’s vision. I think it’s a great idea. Fans want to revisit the film franchise, pop culture is at a campy place right now, and it looked well done.

Overall, I think going down a darker, grittier road was a fantastic idea. Honestly, it’s a little scary! Which is a good thing. This is a film that is for the fans. Fans want a film that represents the successful video game series that they buy into.

Now, I’m aware that this is a revision of the video game. There is no fantasy world and there aren’t any four-armed mythical creatures to battle. It’s been redesigned as a story featuring real world psychopaths. That was a pretty brilliant idea for someone who saw the potential in the franchise but didn’t want to ruin a cult classic or fail yet again by revisiting a losing concept. I say, give The Real Housewives of Wherever a break and try some new psychopaths on for size.
