Everyone should watch this video. This is one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever seen. It’s an “It Gets Better” video by Texas Councilman Joel Burns. It doesn’t matter whether you’re straight or gay, this video is important to watch.
The fight against bullying is a cause that has always been close to my heart. I’ve always loathed the concept of conformity crushing individuality. Essentially, that’s how I see teen bullying. Specifically, it has come to my attention that LGBTQ youth attempt suicide four times more often than heterosexual youth. The world needs to wake up. This is unacceptable.
You’ve heard the stories and you may have somewhat lamented, but it’s time to do something proactive. These are young people who could have done something extraordinary with their lives. They could have cured AIDS, invented something spectacular, or inspired other young people. They could have just lived a great life.
Check out The Trevor Project. It’s an organization created to end suicide among LGBTQ youth; however, it doesn’t matter whether you’re gay or straight, if you feel like giving up, there’s always someone there to listen.
Being different can sometimes suck, but always remember that feelings of loneliness, anger, frustration, or sadness teach you something. You should never hope or wish to be average or “normal”… that’s so boring and overrated. Being different is a privilege so appreciate it.
Always remember the mantra this blog is founded on… “Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand.” Meaning, if you feel like you have nothing going for you in life, remember that you may actually have something very special and spectacular going for you. Just give yourself a chance.
